We all have an inner being at our core which can be referred to as our-true essence inside or our inner being. Meditation has led many spiritual and religious leaders to find this inner being. For instance : Christians refer to it as the Christ Consciousness or soul; Quakers mention it as the Inner Light and Buddhists call it Buddha Nature. In the IFS model we find our true essence once we get permission from our extreme parts to separate from us. This is when we see who we really are.
Internal Family Systems Is an evidenced based practice. IFS has promising effects on mind (phobia, panic, depression, anxiety), body (physical health conditions), and spirit (personal resilience and self-concept).
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is being used by more than psychotherapists. It is also a model that health practitioners, teachers, business people, parents, children, religious leaders and other individuals around the world use. This model was created by Dr. Richard Schwartz to assist people to heal their internal parts by building Self Leadership. For more information check out the Center for Self Leadership Site.
My experience using Internal Family Systems (IFS) for the past seven years enabled me to heal from many life challenges. I have tried various modalities throughout my own therapy work; however, nothing provided me the ability to not only be in "recovery" or "recovered" but to thrive in life. To be able to feel freedom for my parts that were burdened has led me to Self with a capital S. These qualities of Self that I now experience are confidence, courage, creativity, compassion, connectedness, calmness, curiosity and clarity. One of the parts of me that healed by using the IFS model was my anorexic part. The anorexic part is now doing healthier "jobs" in my system instead of restricting. Being in the present moment with my son, partner, friends and family is a benefit of IFS.
My family life is more fulfilling as my partner, son and parents all are learning about their parts. Finding this new found freedom led me into my passion of pursuing IFS training. During the training process I had practice sessions with other practitioners and other interested parties. Witnessing others in trainings and my clients come to understand and start to heal their inner systems is what persuaded me to be a Certified Internal Family Systems Therapist..
Wanting to deepen self-energy and growth in the model, I became a program assistant (PA). A PA in IFS training programs organized by IFS Institute strengthens and reinforces the model.
I have completed level one IFS training through the Center for Self Leadership and am listed on the Internal Family Systems Institute's Website as an IFS Therapist in Tucson, AZ. I have taken the Internal Family Systems Online Circle Program with Dr. Richard Schwartz (the developer of IFS) and Senior IFS Trainers. I have also taken the IFS Online Continuity Program to deepen my knowledge and skills of IFS. Included in the Continuity Program are topics such as: IFS, Diversity, and Inclusion: All Parts are Welcome; IFS Treatment of Sexual Trauma; IFS and Depression, Anxiety and Shame; Working with Children and Adolescents. The other IFS online course I completed was IFS-Inspired Coaching: Aligning the Inner System.
One more course I completed is Treating Complex Trauma with Internal Family Systems A comprehensive certificate training course featuring Dr. Frank Anderson.
In addition I have completed Level two IFS training - Intimacy From The Inside Out (IFIO).
"Intimacy from the Inside Out© is a model of couples therapy that draws primarily from the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model of psychotherapy, but also includes aspects of psychodynamic theory, systems thinking and neuroscience", Toni Herbine-Blank (designed IFIO).
I have completed Level 3 training with IFS Senior Lead Trainer CeCe Skyes. This level 3 training deepened my knowledge of IFS. Attending this training I expanded my practice with the IFS model.
